For some individuals, a Manhattan nursing home facility is the best way to ensure that their aging loved one can get the care that they need and deserve. Certainly there will always be apprehension when entrusting others to watch over a family member, but the hope is that the facility’s administration will go to great lengths to keep residents safe.

According to reports, one family claims that their 95 year old relative was not properly protected by her nursing home’s management. They claim that, as a result of negligence, the female resident endured sexual abuse at the hands of a younger male resident who also happens to be a known sex offender.

Following a review by the Board of Nursing Home Administrators, the facility’s administrator, who worked at the nursing home for almost three decades, reportedly received a $500 fine for her actions regarding this matter. Sources indicate that the administrator was well aware that two residents were registered sex offenders, and forced employees to keep that fact a secret.

The administrator contends that the State Department of Inspections and Appeals found her not guilty of adult abuse. She believes that she committed no errors, but that the responsibility fell on her shoulders as a result of her position. Following the incident, the administrator left the nursing home, which received a $10,000 fine in conjunction with the matter.

While it is impossible to undue the trauma of physical abuse, filing an elder abuse lawsuit against the offending parties can help individuals progress toward healing; it may even keep others from becoming future victims.
